Kate Shawl


Requirements

150gms of Ice DK 50 or 450 metres Double Knitting Yarn

Small amount of green dk yarn

4mm circular needle (long)

Abbreviations

yfwd – yarn forward. Place yarn to the front of your work then over the needle to knit the next stitch

Sl 1 - slip the first stitch (do not knit into it)

K2tog – knit 2 together / K3tog – knit 3 stitches together

turn – turn your work ready to knit back on the stitches you have just knit

ssk – slip two stitches on to the right needle without knitting and then knit into the front of them with the left needle.

Inc – increase

sk2p – slip next stitch onto the right needle. Knit 2 together then pass the slip stitch over the k2tog

m1 – make one stitch, by picking up the horizontal loop before next stitch and knitting into back of it

Lace Boarder

Using 4mm needles cast on 209 sts

Knit 3 rows

Pattern – When knitting the lace the stitches mark between the two ** are the repeat stitches

Knit one row

Cast off loosely knit wise.

Top of shawl

With right side facing pick up 206 stitches along the cast on edge.

Knit 3 rows

Next row -k109 stiches turn

Row 1 – sl1 k11, ssk, k3 turn

Row 2 – sl1, k14, ssk, k3, turn

Row 3 – sl1, k17, ssk, k3, turn

Row 4 – sl1,k20,ssk,k3,turn

Row 5 – sl1, k23, ssk, k3 turn

Row 6 – sl1, k26, ssk, k3, turn

Continue in this manner increasing the number of stitches knit by 3 on every row until you have worked all the stitches. Don’t worry if you have odd number of stitches on the last row each side. This often happens if you have miscounted. It will not spoil your shawl so keep going.

Knit two rows. If you have ended on the wrong side knit 3 row.

Cast off as follows -

(cast on 2 stitches into the first stitch on the left hand needle. Cast off 5 stitches)

Transfer the stitch from the right needle to the left needle and then repeat ( )

Fasten off last stitch. Darn in ends and attach button to 17th pattern on the lower edge wrong side counting in from the left.

Flower

Cast on 24st leaving a long tail

Knit 1 row

Next row – K1, M1 until last stitch K1

Knit 5 rows

Cast off as follows – cast off 2 stitches,* yfwd, slip the stitch on the right hand needle over the yfwd , k1, cast off 1* repeat from * - * until the end. Gather up the cast on edge using the long tail and wind stitches into a rose shape. Fasten off securely.
